2018 NFL Mock Draft: Projecting every first round selection
The Los Angeles Rams’ offense exploded in 2017. Jared Goff and Todd Gurley blasted opposing defenses and sent the Rams to the playoffs. The defense had their moments, but started to show leaks down the stretch, particularly in the secondary.
Starters Trumaine Johnson and Troy Hill both had respectable seasons, but neither are considered to be a lock down corner. The depth chart behind them is lacking at best, making that position the number one priority for the Rams this offseason. Colorado’s Isaiah Oliver would be an instant upgrade at a spot that needs more consistency.
Oliver has elite-level ball skills and understands how to position his body in space. He blanketed receivers this season, tallying 12 passes defended and two interceptions. The junior had 25 passes defended in three seasons with the Buffaloes. When Oliver lines up on one side of the field it’s usually best to look the other way, that’s how dominant he was in college.
At 6-foot-1, 195 pounds he’s not going to get pushed around on the outside. He’s comfortable playing on an island and has already proven he can do it against some of the best passers in the college ranks. Playing in the Pac-12 gave him plenty of exposure to NFL-caliber quarterbacks like Josh Rosen, Sam Darnold and Luke Falk.
