College Football’s 5th Quarter: Pre-National Signing Day transfers and scandals
4. Scott Frost’s first workouts at Nebraska
The aforementioned Scott Frost, the former UCF Knights head football coach, has formally moved on to the Nebraska Cornhuskers and started winter workouts with his new program. Frost, who took UCF from 0-12 before his arrival to 13-0 in two short years, came to his alma mater to return them to the glory from his past as the Huskers’ quarterback.
When Scott Frost won the national title in 1997, that was Nebraska’s third title in four seasons as they won in 1994, and 1995, before also winning in 1997. Frost knows the climate, culture, and talent level of a Nebraska Cornhuskers football team regardless of how long it’s been since he was in Lincoln.
However, Frost’s staff has run into an issue almost immediately. As Football Scoop and other sources have reported, Nebraska Cornhuskers wide receiver Tyjon Lindsey and defensive lineman Dylan Owen were hospitalized and have been treated for rhabdomyolysis also known as rhabdo.
Scott Frost has taken total responsibility for the health issues in his program by saying, “Anything that happens in this program is my responsibility.” This is in stark contrast to Willie Taggart’s response to the rhabdo issues at Oregon a year ago. While Taggart shunned beat reporters Frost has come clean about not only the issues, but also the workout and situation surrounding it.
Frost claims to have had athletic trainers present, and have done a shortened weight based workout after taking body fat analysis of the players and an initial evaluation of the Cornhuskers. Frost ran the same workouts at UCF for the past two years and didn’t have issues. With rhabdo issues coming up every year I’m assuming the NCAA or some governing body will soon give a set workout and evaluation system of the players in order to make sure liberties aren’t being taken to free schools up of scholarships.
