This is a Hail Mary. Jaylen Waddle has been heavily recruited by Alabama and Texas A&M over the last several weeks and most national experts see this as a two-horse race. But the Longhorns still have a foot in the door in the hunt for the 4-star wideout.

Texas enters the week of National Signing Day with the No. 3 recruiting class in the nation. That’s higher than Alabama’s class and it’s significantly higher than Texas A&M’s. Their pitch to Waddle is a hybrid of what he’ll be hearing in College Station – come and build something – and Alabama – we’re going to win championships.

The 5-foot, 9.5-inch speedster from Bellaire, Texas is the No. 5 recruit in the state and the No. 9 wide receiver in the nation. He’d be a star in Austin for year if he chose the Longhorns and wouldn’t have to sit behind crowded depth charts at Alabama or Texas A&M.

Waddle will announce his commitment on ESPNU at 4:30 p.m. EST on National Signing Day. A last-minute addition would be the biggest surprise of the day and possibly push the Longhorns even further up the rankings.
