Overall: C+

LSU answered two key questions and found replacements for Chark and Key, but they left bigger holes like safety and running back nearly unaddressed. This is a class that many programs would gladly accept, but it’s only the fifth best class in the SEC.

Recruiting against Alabama is no small task. It’s also not an excuse that LSU fans and administrators will accept from their second year head coach. That’s especially true after new Texas A&M head coach managed to flip a pair of Alabama commits on National Signing Day. Orgeron needed a home run class to solidify confidence in the program, this is more akin to a double.

That’s likely not going to be enough to earn Orgeron a conference championship and it might cost him his job if he can’t work some magic on the field this season. No quarterback in the class means his future is likely riding on the arm of sophomore quarterback Myles Brennan. He showed flashes last season, but lacked the consistency to win the starting job from Danny Etling.

On field success always makes recruiting a little easier. The object for Coach O and LSU now is to generate their own momentum for the 2019 class and beyond. If they don’t the Tigers might be looking to someone else to put the finishing touches on their next class.
