UCLA Football and new head coach Chip Kelly brought the nation’s No. 18 recruiting class back to Westwood in his first season. How did the class grade out?

Out is Jim Mora Jr. and in is Chip Kelly. The Bruins were one of the quickest teams to pull the trigger in the most recent coaching carousel, giving their new head man as much time as possible to put together his first recruiting class in Westwood.

The December change coupled with the first Early Signing Period didn’t seem to affect the Bruins as much as it did over schools that made coaching changes. UCLA checked in at No. 18 following National Signing Day. They tend to finish somewhere between No. 10 and No. 20. Given the circumstances, finishing on the lower end of the range isn’t too concerning.

Eight players signed with the Bruins in December and 19 more submitted their Letters of Intent on National Signing Day. That’s an impressive finish for a staff that was on the job for two months. Their completed class includes 10 blue chips recruits and 19 additional 3-star recruits.

It was the fourth best class in the Pac-12, but will Kelly’s offensive wizardry turn every day players into Saturday superstars? Time will tell. For now it’s time to assess the class as is. How did the Bruins’ 2018 recruiting class grade out?
