5. The Top 5 is dominated by D-Line

Four of the 2019 recruiting class’s top five prospects are defensive linemen. That’s not a shock but it is a lean towards the trenches and away from the 2018 class being led by two quarterbacks in the aforementioned Fields and Trevor Lawrence the quarterback that signed with the Clemson Tigers.

Three of the top five in 2018 were defensive linemen. 2019’s top prospect is Louisiana defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher. Sopsher is a 6-foot-5, 280 pound wrecking ball that has to be a major get for the LSU Tigers. If Ed Orgeron misses on Sopsher, a player from his backyard that plays the position he’s known for coaching, it may be time to move on from Coach O.

The other defensive linemen in the 2019 top 5 are defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux of California, defensive end Zach Harrison of Ohio, and defensive end Nolan Smith from IMG. The lone non-defensive linemen in the ’19 class is wide receiver Jadon Haselwood of Georgia. He’s 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds sitting at the third spot in the 2019 overall rankings.

The rest of the 2019 top 10 leans towards offense with IMG running back Trey Sanders, athlete Bru McCoy, offensive tackle Devontae Dobbs and wide receiver Dominick Blaylock projecting to the offensive side of the ball while Owen Pappoe, the linebacker from Georgia, will stay on defense at the next level.
