Iowa State Football: Way-too-early game-by-game predictions for 2018
Following the Cy-Hawk game, Iowa State will have to rally quick with Lincoln Riley’s Oklahoma Sooners riding into Jack Trice Stadium. Revenge will no doubt be on the minds of the Sooners as the Cyclones upset Oklahoma in Norman a year ago, their first win at Memorial Stadium since 1990.
Oklahoma is coming off another very successful season, they qualified for their second College Football Playoff in school history, won the Big 12 title and produced a Heisman Trophy winner in Baker Mayfield. The Sooners season ended in Pasadena with a loss in the Rose Bowl to Georgia, but it was still one of the most successful in school history. Mayfield does leave to the NFL Draft, but sophomore quarterback Kyler Murray looks to make an immediate impact.
Oklahoma has dominated Iowa State in the all-time series, holding a 74-6-2 advantage dating back to 1928 and the days of the Big Six conference. Iowa State won last year’s meeting, their first win against Oklahoma since 1990, where Jim Walden’s Cyclone’s beat Gary Gibbs’ Sooners by a final of 33-31.
This game could be tricky for Iowa State, especially coming off an emotional rivalry game. Couple that with the revenge the Sooners want, this could be a bad scenario.
