Iowa State Football: Way-too-early game-by-game predictions for 2018
Following back-to-back losses, the Cyclones will be happy to see the Akron Zips coming to Ames. However, this could also be a challenging game for the Cyclones as the Zips are not a bad team, especially coming off an appearance in the MAC Championship and a bowl game. Terry Bowden has got a consistent winner heading in to year seven in Akron.
The Zips return some key pieces such as freshman quarterback Kato Nelson, running back Van Edwards Jr., and leading receiver Kwadarrius Smith. Akron’s defense does see the return of senior linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III, who compiled 140 tackles and three interceptions as a junior. The Zips are a talented team that will not be taken lightly in MAC.
Iowa State dominated last year’s matchup in Akron by a final of 41-14. This game will hopefully be the game the Cyclones get back on track and fortunately that will be the case.
