A staple of Kirk Ferentz’s tenure at Iowa has been molding offensive linemen, some that didn’t even play offensive line in high school. Players such as Robert Gallery, Brandon Scherff, Ike Boettger and many others were molded into stout offensive linemen. The next kid that could follow in that long line is Green Bay, Wisc., native Jack Plumb.

Plumb played tight end for most of his high school career and helped lead Bay Port High School to the Wisconsin Division I State Semi-Finals (Largest division in the state). Plumb was not very active as a receiver, accumulating five receptions for 85 yards in his senior season. His blocking, however, is what got him an offer to Iowa, as shown on his highlight tape.

Plumb is a ferocious blocker, one that every high school coach in the country wish they had on their team. He is not one to quit on plays and shows that many times on his tape, engaging with defenders for 10, 15, in some cases even 20 yards downfield. Plumb is also explosive off the line of scrimmage and has a great first step, which is key in a zone blocking scheme like Iowa’s. He has all the tools to become a great offensive lineman once he puts on the weight to compete.
