In recent years, the Hawkeyes struggled mightily with wide receivers, especially during Greg Davis tenure as offensive coordinator. However, there was a noticeable improvement once Brian Ferentz stepped in at offensive coordinator and showcased young talent such as Ihmir Smith-Marsette and Brandon Smith. Tyrone Tracy could be another freshman that makes an impact early in his career

Tracy was a star running back for Decatur Central High School in metro Indianapolis. He was involved in the receiving game just as much as the rushing game as he rushed for 1,412 yards and 13 touchdowns while piling up 1,132 yards receiving and 16 receiving touchdowns, while leading Decatur Central to a berth in the Indiana Class 5A State Playoffs. Tracy will be coming to Iowa as a wide receiver, joining a very young core of receivers.

On tape, Tracy is an explosive playmaker who has breath-taking lateral quickness. His for 4.63 40-yard dash is impressive, especially for a high school senior. Tracy exemplifies the term “burner” as a receiver and has a great pair of hands as he hauled in 54 passes in his senior season. He will no doubt have a chance to contribute early and could very well find himself returning kickoffs and punts when he comes to Iowa City.
