3. Fan support carries over into other school sports

Iowa State men’s basketball sat among the premier programs in the Big 12 in the past five years. A down season for the fans in Ames did not keep them away from entering Hilton Coliseum in droves this year.

The tight knit community around Iowa State University loves the school no matter what. It’s not a fan base that will forget about certain sports, especially basketball or football, if the win column is not where they want it to be. During the 2016-17 men’s basketball season, the Clones faithful had the 16th largest average attendance in the nation, according to NCAA.com.

Since Hilton holds 14,356 people, the fact that Iowa State posted an average attendance of 14,275 per game is incredible. That’s slightly less than 100 fans away from the capacity of the arena. Much of the same could be said about the loyalty of the fans for the football program.
