Southern California. Sam Darnold. 2. player. 31. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Quarterback

Needs: QB, OT, RB

The New York Giants have a new head football coach, again. The Giants have hired Pat Shurmur, the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings, to take over their franchise. New York finished 11-5 in 2016 but slipped to 3-13 in 2017 and saw Ben McAdoo lose his job.

Shurmur will want to draft and groom his own quarterback as Eli Manning rides off into the sunset. The Giants need a quarterback that is okay waiting his turn, while also being mentally tough enough to handle the spotlight of New York City and Page Six.

I see the Giants selecting USC’s Sam Darnold. Darnold is used to the media attention of Los Angeles so New York’s market won’t faze him. He is physically gifted and interviewed well at the combine. Darnold is seen as a player that avoids controversy and is a leader in the huddle.

After a strong combine showing, he just needs a good pro day in order to cement himself as the second overall pick. Josh Rosen had a rocky combine in the passing drills and Josh Allen is still seen as a question mark. Shurmur will draft the quarterback of the future and build the franchise around Sam Darnold.
