If you ever wondered where the Heisman Pose celebration got it’s start, look no further than Michigan’s Desmond Howard. Before he was a member of ESPN’s College Gameday, Howard was and electrifying receiver in Ann Arbor. In his career in the maize and blue, Howard compiled 2,146 receiving yards and 32 receiving touchdowns. Howard was also a return specialist, returning three touchdowns in his career, including his famous return against Ohio State in 1991.

Howard arrived at Michigan in 1988, and following an inactive freshman season, he saw some action as a sophomore and a solid junior season. However, he exploded onto the national scene in 1991, hauling in 62 passes for 985 yards and 19 touchdowns, and also tallied on two more touchdowns off special teams. Howard was awarded the 1991 Heisman Trophy in a landslide, along with the Maxwell and Walter Camp Awards. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 1992 NFL Draft.
