Charles Woodson was a player in which college football may never see the likes of again. A three-year starter at cornerback, Woodson accumulated 18 career interceptions in the maize and blue and captured a national championship in 1997. Woodson also made appearances on offense, hauling in 21 passes at Michigan for 370 yards and also accumulated 167 rushing yards as well.
But perhaps his most memorable moment was his punt return against Ohio State in 1997, almost a carbon copy of Desmond Howard’s only six years earlier. Woodson became the first primarily defensive player to ever win the Heisman Trophy and remains so to this day. He beat out fellow finalists Peyton Manning and Randy Moss to win the award.
Woodson hauled many other awards in 1997 such as the Nagurski, Bednarik, Thorpe, Walter Camp, and the Chicago Tribune Silver Football. He was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 1998 NFL Draft.
