5. Clyde Littlefield: 1927-1933

The number five coach on the list was an influential member of the Texas track and field program, but did leave his mark on the gridiron as well. Clyde Littlefield spent his college days playing football, basketball and track at Texas from 1912 to 1916, lettering in all three sports. Upon his graduation, he became head football coach at Greenville High School in Greenville Texas before returning to Texas as head track coach in 1920.

In the midst of his tenure as track coach, Littlefield took the football job prior to the 1927 season. His tenure as football coach was successful, as he compiled a 44-18-6 record a won two Southwest Conference Championships in 1928 and 1930. He never won less than six games in his tenure until his final season at the helm, which saw the Longhorns stumble to a 4-5-2 record.

Following the 1933 season, Littlefield stepped down as head football coach, but would remain head track coach until 1960. During his time as head track coach, the Longhorns track and field program captured 25 Southwest Conference team championships and even served as an assistant coach for the United States track and field team at the 1952 Helinski Summer Olympics.
