2. The battle for starting quarterback

Tristan Gebbia, a redshirt freshman from California, is primed to take over the quarterback role from Tanner Lee. Gebbia is a former composite four-star quarterback with NFL height at 6-foot-3 but slight at only 190 pounds. Gebbia redshirted but did early enroll in 2017 so he has experience to become Scott Frost’s starting quarterback in 2018.

Another option is Patrick O’Brien. O’Brien has legitimate NFL size at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds. A former four-star prospect, O’Brien hails from San Juan Hill High School in California. He played in three games in 2017 and threw for 192 yards on 60 percent passing.

The real Frost style selection is dual threat quarterback Adrian Martinez. Martinez, as previously mentioned, is a four-star quarterback with a good build and the speed and inside zone read ability of a true Scott Frost quarterback. Transfer Noah Vedral will have to sit out for a year but could make a tough quarterback competition in 2019.

What do I really know about the quarterback competition? Coach Frost will expect his quarterback to be able to run a hurry up no huddle offense. A Frost passer will have to have a quick release, the ability to run the inside zone read option and possibly the power read, and  a run-pass option offense.
