2018 NFL Mock Draft: Complete first round after pro days, trades
Needs: OG, CB, RB, QB
The Miami Dolphins still have Ryan Tannehill as their starting quarterback in 2018. Tannehill is coming off of a season-ending knee injury that cost him all of 2017, and forced Miami to pay free agent Jay Cutler much more than he was worth to try and save the season.
That said, the Dolphins needs to draft a quarterback and Baker Mayfield is going to be a guy that could benefit from sitting a year before being called on. Sitting out will help Mayfield’s on and off the field maturity and get him acclimated to more snaps from under center and less tempo than he’s used to.
The Dolphins have also traded away their weapons in Jay Ajayi and Jarvis Landry and have been cash strapped with the contracts of Ndamukong Suh and Tannehill.
The Dolphins are currently pulling off an NBA style move in throwing the 2018 season and doing a cash dump now in order to resurrect their salary cap situation and start rebuilding next season. The Browns used this same tactic and finished 0-16 but are currently loaded on offense and in need of a good defensive draft to turn their franchise around. Mayfield could be the quarterback of the future but on a roster that looks quite different by 2019.
