2018 NFL Mock Draft: Complete first round after pro days, trades
Needs: DL, LB, WR
Washington is in need of a defensive lineman and with Vita Vea already off the board they’ll take another athletic big body in Da’Ron Payne. Payne, the former Alabama Crimson Tide national champion, has size at 6-foot-2 and 311 pounds plus speed as he was clock at 4.95 in the 40 yard dash. Payne has an extremely high draft grade which makes him a steal falling to thirteen and Jay Gruden also has a win-now attitude about his team.
Washington needs a linebacker and a wide receiver to round out their depth chart but with the old veteran Alex Smith at quarterback at least they know they have a leader that can win football games and get the franchise into the playoffs.
Daniel Snyder has shown extreme patience in giving Jay Gruden a fifth year as a coach with a 28-35-1 record in his time in D.C. Adding a play making defensive lineman will hopefully give Washington an edge on defense where they can focus on adding playmakers for Alex Smith in the rest of the draft.
