2018 NFL Mock Draft: Complete first round after pro days, trades
Needs: OL, WR, CB
I’m sticking by my decision to draft Notre Dame offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey with the 14th overall pick. Offensive tackle seems to be the most argued point of who will be taken first in this year’s draft process. McGlinchey seems to be the most NFL ready and the Packers have a closing window with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.
Rodgers did sit out the first three years of his career learning behind Brett Favre but he has had two seasons (2013, 2017) that ended in injuries in his career. McGlinchey has long arms, NFL size, and Notre Dame offensive linemen just always seem to put together solid NFL careers.
The Packers need to protect Rodgers while bolstering their receiver corps after losing Jordy Nelson. They did bring in tight end Jimmy Graham from Seattle and hopefully Graham can be a red zone target for Rodgers. The Packers can’t rely on Rodgers forever as he enters year fifteen in the NFL and Clay Matthews has logged ten seasons of grueling NFC North football. Mike McCarthy has only had two losing seasons as a head football coach- back in 2008 and this past season in 2017.
