There might not be a single other position group for along the entire Irish roster that loses as much as the offensive line. Having both offensive tackle Mike McGlinchey and guard Quenton Nelson depart after the same season would hurt any group of lineman.

However, Notre Dame will need to respond with an offensive line that still has a solid group of tackles, guards, and centers. One of those players to watch is a rising junior left tackle in Liam Eichenberg. Fellow rising junior lineman Tommy Kraemer has the potential to lock down the tackle spots, opposite Eichenberg.

As a very highly touted offensive tackle recruit in the 2016 cycle (four-star prospect), Eichenberg has the skill level required to succeed in a program with as high of expectations as Notre Dame. He’ll be called upon to block for some new faces in the ground game, including Dexter Williams and Tony Jones Jr. Josh Adams is gone too.

A ton of lineman talent still lies on the depth chart. Guys like Eichenberg and Kraemer could easily emerge as 2019 of 2020 NFL Draft prospects with a solid outing in 2018. They need a good spring game, blocking for Williams and Jones Jr., on April 21.
