2018 NFL Draft: Ranking the Top 10 running backs
By Dana Becker
He was seen as a fill-in for Leonard Fournette two years ago, but Derrius Guice quickly showed that he was more than that.
Guice, a 5-foot-11, 218-pounder, ran for over 2,500 yards his last two seasons for LSU, including 29 rushing touchdowns. That was highlighted by a sophomore campaign in which he had 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns on just 183 carries.
Much like Fournette, Guice’s junior season was hindered by injuries. He still managed to run for 1,251 yards and scored 11 times, but saw his average-per-carry dip from an incredible 7.6 to 5.3.
The Baton Rouge native will have to prove he can stay healthy after missing one game and seeing limited carries in a couple of others this past year. He did stick to his word and played in the Citrus Bowl, running for 98 yards in a loss to Notre Dame.
