Once a highly-touted recruit, Riley Ferguson signed with Tennessee out of high school. When that didn’t work, he moved to the junior college ranks and shined before winding up at Memphis for a productive career.

Ferguson, who is 6-3 and weighs 212 pounds, isn’t very athletic or mobile despite his size. He does, though, know when to escape and has a great feel for the pocket.

In two seasons with Memphis, Ferguson threw for just under 8,000 yards with 70 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. This past year alone he threw for 4,257 yards and had a 38-9 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

The idea of Ferguson coming in on the first day of camp and replacing a current starter is unlikely, but he showed the kind of big arm and smarts to make him a capable backup or third-stringer for a few years while he learns the NFL ins and outs.
