3. Geography

The distance between Iowa and Notre Dame is closer than most think, as it is only a mere 304 mile drive on Interstate 80 for either side. Right smack in the middle of those two universities is one of the largest cities in the United States, Chicago. Now many proclaim Northwestern as “Chicago’s Big Ten Team”, but from attending the Iowa-Northwestern game a season ago, Iowa definitely looked like “Chicago’s Big Ten Team” based on the colors that filled Ryan Field.

Chicago is an obvious hot spot for Notre Dame alums as it is only around 100 miles from the campus. Also, a school with the prestige Notre Dame, gives graduate students millions and millions of opportunities to work in a place like Chicago. Iowa is also no slouch in the academic field and a good chunk of the Iowa student body hail from the Chicagoland area.

If the two sides wanted to, a series at Soldier Field or even Wrigley Field would be a spectacle, however I believe that seeing a home-and-home between the two sides would be special as well. The sight of seeing the Swarm at Notre Dame Stadium or the gold helmets shining in Kinnick Stadium would be a very entertaining one.
