NFL Mock Draft 2018: Complete 7-Round projections
At No.11 overall the Miami Dolphins find themselves in no man’s land when it comes to the quarterback race. The Dolphins made a sizable commitment to their current signal caller, Ryan Tannehill, but up-and-down results and a knee injury which kept him out of the 2017 season entirely have the brass seriously evaluating the future of the position in Miami.
That leaves them two options: reach for a quarterback or take the cliched “best player available”. The Dolphins can bolster their offensive line, save money and secure the services of the draft’s top tackle by selecting Connor Williams out of Texas. Williams rose from a 3-star prospect to a consensus first-team All American. He’d fit on either side of the Dolphins’ line and provide Tannehill peace of mind on the outside.
Tackle Ja’Wuan James has finished his rookie deal, leaving the fifth year option available to the Dolphins. Should they choose to exercise it they’d be on the hook for $9.1 million next in 2018, making James the second highest paid right tackle in the NFL. That’s a hefty price, especially when they could start the cycle over by drafting Williams.
