UTSA. Marcus Davenport. Scouting Report. Defensive End. 27. player. 15. Pick Analysis

The New Orleans Saints will eventually need to find a quarterback to take the reins from Drew Brees. Unless they fall in love with a passer outside of the top four they’ll look elsewhere with pick No. 27. Here they’ll solidify the new direction of their team with one of the best defensive prospects still available, UTSA defensive end Marcus Davenport.

Unlike the pass-happy versions of this team in recent history, the 2017 Saints relied on a dynamic rushing attack and a smothering defense. Led by their secondary, the addition of a powerful pass rusher could be what this unit needs to put them over the top.

Davenport would slide in behind Cameron Jordan, providing a valuable depth piece and a cheaper option down the road. The Saints finished in the top 10 in total sacks a year ago. The front seven has depth, all it’s missing is a young gun or two to come in and create havoc in the offensive backfield. Davenport is a bit raw, which could allow him to fall into the Saints laps at the end of the first round.
