Pick Analysis. Bradley Chubb. player. Defensive End. NC State. 2. 31. Scouting Report

It has been assumed that the New York Giants will hold the No. 2 pick for ransom, forcing a quarterback desperate team to pay an exorbitant price to climb up and get their man. As logical as that might scenario seems to be, there are two significant problems: Giants GM Dave Gettleman and the depth of the 2018 draft class.

Dave Gettleman is in his first year with New York, joining the Giants after spending the previous five years with the Carolina Panthers. He has never traded down in the NFL Draft – not once, instead he’s traded up on six separate occasions. Barring a stunning offer, that won’t change this year.

There there’s the issue of this particular draft class. There are only a half-dozen “can’t miss” prospects available. If the Giants were to trade down to a quarterback-needy team outside of the top 10 they could easily be giving up a potential All-Star caliber player for an above-average NFL starter.

Whether it’s the right move or not, the Giants will stay pat at keep their pick, selecting pass rusher Bradley Chubb out of NC State to fill the void vacated by Jason Pierre-Paul. He doesn’t have the same freakish athletic ability as Myles Garrett, but Chubb has all the makings of a future star and Gettleman won’t pass him up.
