Pick Analysis. Quarterback. Louisville. Lamar Jackson. player. 52. Scouting Report. 29

Blake Bortles signed a 3-year $54 million contract extension this offseason. Theoretically the Jaguars are out of the quarterback market. Or are they? The way which Bortles’ contract was structured leaves some leeway for the Jags to get out of the deal before the end of the deal should they so choose, and they might if they’re able to find their quarterback of the future.

Late in the first round the Jags find themselves at a crossroads. The “blue-chip” prospects are off the board and their biggest needs (tight end, offensive line) can easily be address later in the draft. While drafting Bortles’ replacement might not be Plan A, the Jags won’t be able to say no to Lamar Jackson if he’s still on the board.

Jackson’s stock has continued to fall this offseason, largely because of issues surrounding his communication and availability. He chose not to hire an agent, and teams have reportedly had trouble scheduling workouts with the Louisville product.

Bortles might not be Brett Favre, but he’s an experienced NFL quarterback who can help Jackson get up to speed on the NFL game. More talent at the quarterback position is always a win, and Jacksonville can’t afford to not draft Jackson here.
