Quarterback

Starting quarterback: Nate Stanley
Backups: Peyton Mansell, Spencer Petras

After a solid first year as starting quarterback, Nate Stanley looks to build on a positive season. Stanley threw for 2,437 yards and 26 touchdowns and only threw six interceptions. In the spring game, Stanley looked to have improved his accuracy and showed maturation in his pocket presence as well. The big question is still if Stanley can consistently complete the deep ball, which he struggled with at times last season.

Iowa does have some nice depth at quarterback with redshirt freshman Peyton Mansell and true freshman Spencer Petras.

Mansell showed good accuracy in the spring game and does a great job of extending the play, reminiscent of former Iowa quarterback Drew Tate. Petras is an early-enrollee from California who has great raw talent. A cannon of an arm, similar to Nate Stanley and looked poised in the pocket during the spring game.
