Miami Football 2018 NFL Mock Draft: Where will the Hurricanes land?
Projection: Round 6, No. 198 overall
Braxton Berrios fits the New England Patriots mold. He can serve in the kicking game on punt returns as he was a smart, sure handed returner that 15.9 yards per return his senior season at Miami and also came alive as a receiver averaging 12.3 yards per catch and scoring nine touchdowns for the Hurricanes.
Miami doesn’t quite have the accurate quarterback of Tom Brady‘s stature and Berrios still managed to haul in those errant Malik Rosier throws for positive moments in 2017.
While Berrios did pull a muscle at the NFL Combine and couldn’t perform, he measured in at 5-foot-9 and 186 pounds. The Raleigh, N.C., native fits the ‘Patriot Way’ mindset as he’s an intelligent person on and off the field, he made plays against Miami’s biggest rival in Florida State, and he’s solid catching the bubble screen that Brady loves to throw as well as in the punt return game.
New England has a few short, stocky receivers in the Berrios mold but Julian Edelman is heading into his ninth NFL season and this is the time where that starts to take a toll on a pro’s body. Berrios could step in and learn from Chris Hogan and Edelman while taking over punt return duties from day one.
