College Football: Winners and losers from 2018 spring ball
Winner: Ohio State Buckeyes
The Ohio State Buckeyes have to be a winner by default with how poor of a display the Michigan Wolverines were able to muster up for their 2018 spring hoopla. The Buckeyes enter the 2018 pre-season on the S&P+ list at the top landing in the first overall spot. This is without an incumbent starting quarterback and what is currently a high profile battle between Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow.
Haskins is the young quarterback who carved up Michigan last November and entered as the favorite in March. Burrow is the Ohio-native who has waited his turn behind J.T. Barrett but wants to transfer if he’s not going to be the man in Columbus.
Urban Meyer came out of his spring game looking brilliant as all three quarterbacks flashed positives and Burrow and Haskins both looked ready to win the Big Ten. The former staked a case for himself by finishing 15-for-22 passing for 238 yards and two touchdowns while Haskins was 9-of-19 passing for 120 yards and two touchdowns.
The Buckeyes looked really strong and athletic all around and the Greg Schiano and Alex Grinch combination gives Ohio State the best coaching staff in college football.
Spring 2018 was a huge win for OSU as their spring game was packed, televised and had many former Buckeyes around doing commentary and on the sidelines supporting their brothers in arms.
