2018 NFL Draft: Are these late rumors fact or fiction?
5. Lamar Jackson won’t be a quarterback at the next level
It’s no secret that Lamar Jackson hasn’t done himself any favors leading up to the draft. His refusal to hire an agent led to frustrations with NFL teams and the negative media storm around him has only gotten worse and worse.
One anonymous offensive coordinator dropped a bomb less than 48 hours before the draft began: “He’s an awesome athlete. He will not be able to play (quarterback) in this league—mark my words.”
Lamar Jackson might not be drafted by that team, but he is going to be drafted as a quarterback. The demand for the position is too severe for Jackson not to be given a chance. There’s no doubt that he’s polarizing, but he’s not the only quarterback with issues – Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold all have their faults.
It’s not unprecedented for a quarterback to be asked to move to a different position in the NFL. Several former passers have switched positions in the NFL, all to varying degrees of success. The decision rests with the player, and Jackson has made it crystal clear he only intends to play one position.
