Anthony Averett may be one of the most underrated of Alabama’s draft prospects. Most analysts have him going in third or even fourth round, but that’s a shame. He did great at the combine –even with an ankle injury he still clocked one the 10 best times in the 40-yard dash. He is one of the best cornerbacks in the class, but is often overlooked in favor of showier candidates like Ohio State’s Denzel Ward and Iowa’s Josh Jackson.

The overlooked corner redshirted at Alabama, but emerged as a starter his final two seasons with the Tide. They were pretty memorable seasons, too. In his final year, he had six tackles and a sack. He was the team’s defensive MVP in 2017, and that is saying something for a team with a defense like Alabama’s. The guy has a toughness that belies his slender frame.

Averett would be a great addition to the secondary because he is athletic as all get-out. He shines in man-to-man coverage.

Look, I’m not saying that Averett is the best player in this year’s draft, but the team that gives him a chance will get the little engine that could.
