2. Alex Bars, Guard

Speaking of offensive line talent, fifth-year senior Alex Bars has been named Notre Dame’s fourth captain as the team searches for leadership in the wake of Nelson and McGlinchey’s departures. Bars has all the attributes you look for in a leader, but also displays the effort and effectiveness desired from a guard.

Bars started every game at right guard in 2017, but will be moved to right guard in order to provide a veteran presence for first-year tackle Liam Eichenberg. He entered the college football landscape as a consensus four-star product out of Nashville, and he’s certainly lived up to expectations.

While Bars hasn’t yet displayed the potential of either Nelson or McGlinchey, there’s always the chance that his production booms in 2018. If not, serviceable offensive linemen will always be an amenity in the NFL, so there’s a good chance Bars hears his name called at some point in next year’s draft.
