Notable Mentions

There are many Irish players capable of being selected in next year’s draft. However, due to the unpredictable nature of college football, the previous five prospects were chosen on the basis of their likeliness of declaring for the NFL Draft. While some of them may be considered longshots, here are a few other Notre Dame players who might find themselves on an NFL squad next April.

Asmar Bilal, Rover

Asmar Bilal is expected to slot into the rover position, a role left vacant by Tranquill’s move to inside linebacker. While he doesn’t have any starting experience, he has been a solid depth piece for the Irish and could be an interesting late-round pick should he seriously come into his own as a rover.

Jonathan Bonner, Defensive line

With Tillery’s move from nose tackle to the three-technique, Jonathan Bonner will attempt to switch from tackle to end. While this doesn’t signal the end of Bonner at tackle, it is somewhat of a head-scratcher considering the success he had at the position last season. However, Bonner is certainly capable of making the switch, and versatility is a valued commodity at the NFL level.

Miles Boykin, Wide receiver

Miles Boykin is a very interesting candidate for a late-round flyer in the NFL Draft. We just saw St. Brown go in the sixth round to the Green Bay Packers, but St. Brown has much more physical talent than Boykin. However, if quarterback Brandon Wimbush can get it together in the passing game, Boykin may have the opportunity to showcase his talents to scouts nationwide.

Alizé Mack, Tight end

Alizé Mack has all the talent in the world, but hasn’t been able to put it together since his arrival to Notre Dame. Mack was buried on the depth chart in his first year under DeShone Kizer, suspended in his second, and failed to contribute in a major way with Wimbush under center. However, one year of consistent production may make his raw talent more enticing.

Julian Love, Cornerback

Julian Love has been one of the most exciting players for the Irish as of late, and will make for a fine draft pick eventually. Hopefully for the Irish, eventually comes later rather than sooner. Love has been a bright spot at a position that has recently posed many difficulties for the Irish. While he is likely to be drafted at some point, Clark Lea would love to have him in his defense as a senior.
