4. System Fit

Lane Kiffin is not new to having a dominant workhorse running back. In fact, his system is predicated on it. In Lane’s career, he’s had backs like Reggie BushCurtis McNeal and Lendale White at USC, Montario Hardesty at Tennessee, and a stable of Derrick Henry, Damien Harris, and Bo Scarbrough, among others at Alabama.

A common trend is that all of those backs came in what was considered a successful season. Kiffin’s struggles have all come during seasons without dominant halfbacks. He showed that in Oakland, and during his time as the head coach at USC.

That’s why Devin Singletary is so important, and why he could be in for a massive year. Kiffin needs halfbacks to thrive, and Singletary is perfect for that. He’s more Reggie Bush than he is Lendale White, but his skills, like the motor mentioned earlier, his speed, elusiveness and ability as a receiver make him the ideal Kiffin back.
