College Football Top 25 projections after 2018 spring practices
By Zach Bigalke
South Carolina showcased a revamped offense under new coordinator Bryan McClendon at this year’s spring game. The Gamecocks returns much of their offensive talent. Deebo Samuels is back, and Bryan Edwards and A.J. Turner are developing into major targets as well for quarterback Jake Bentley. Meanwhile, Ty’Son Williams has the potential to break out as a major running back in the SEC this year.
The 614 yards of offense in the spring game obscured the improvements that are also being made on defense. Several young recruits looked promising in the spring game, with freshman early-enrollee linebacker Rosendo Louis notably racking up five tackles. Though the loss of a lot of talent could lead to a slight dip in defensive productivity, they won’t fall far from last year’s Top 25 unit.
If any team is best positioned to challenge Georgia for the SEC East title in 2018, it is the Gamecocks. Will Muschamp‘s team could put a lot of pressure on rival defenses this year. The spectacle put on display at the spring game will ensure that South Carolina shows up somewhere in the high teens or low 20s of the preseason AP Top 25.
