3. Houston Nutt
Houston Nutt is a former head football coach at the collegiate level and has been working for CBS as an analyst since being fired by Ole Miss in 2011. The sixty year old Nutt might want to get back into coaching because the fire never goes all the way out for guys in the business, but it seems as though his window is closing in that regard and a move into Lee Corso’s seat might be the next step for Coach Nutt.
Also a former quarterback, Nutt would step foot onto the College GameDay set in a comfort zone as he played the position at Arkansas and Oklahoma State in the 70’s before starting his coaching career. After his playing days were over Nutt then traveled southwest as a graduate assistant and an assistant coach before becoming the head coach at Murray State, Boise State, Arkansas, and Ole Miss.
Nutt has the coaching experience, veteran presence and most importantly- he’s quirky. What Mr. Corso brings to the GameDay set is that quirkiness that sets him apart from the more serious Tom Rinaldi pieces or the dryness of other pre-game shows and broadcasts. Coach Nutt won’t be able to help himself as he’s known for being twitchy, awkward, and more or less strange. The age, coaching chops and personality would make Nutt a good fit for the role.
