4. Missouri Tigers
Missouri’s current starting quarterback Drew Lock has thrown for over 8,600 yards and 71 touchdowns on 7.7 yards per attempt over his three years in Columbia, Mo. He really advanced his game under former offensive coordinator Josh Heupel, who took the Central Florida head coaching position this offseason. Heupel and Lock took Missouri’s offense from 123rd in the S&P+ offensive rankings to 42nd in 2016 and 13th in 2017.
With Heupel down in Orlando, it remains to be seen if Barry Odom made the right hire in Derek Dooley. The former Tennessee Volunteers head football coach (2010-12), has spent the last five seasons in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys learning under Jason Garrett.
If Johnson transfers in to Missouri, it’s not too much of a hike from his home state of Indiana. Johnson also is looking to be in a situation where they will throw the football, and obviously Lock has done quite a bit of passing in his time at Missouri. With Johnson being required to sit out the 2018 season, he can sit and learn behind Lock and take over the starting role.
Eyes will be on the Tigers’ football program and offense in general with Lock being a possible first round NFL Draft pick in 2019, and with him lighting up the scoreboards as well.
Missouri could be the unmentioned right fit for Hunter Johnson as the Tigers keep him in a power five conference and playing on national TV.
