James Foster was one of Jimbo Fisher’s biggest National Signing Day coups. Fisher swooped in at the final hour and was able to steal Foster away from Florida State and convince his cousin, 325 pound offensive lineman Tank Jenkins, to come to College Station as well.

There were a long list of programs interested in Foster and the Aggies don’t intend to hand out scholarships to players they intend to ride the bench for four years. However, given the intricacies of the offense it’s not realistic to expect Foster to be the guy from day one.

Fisher will take it slow with Foster and give him the chance to develop under quarterbacks with real starting experience in the SEC. Jameis Winston, arguably Fisher’s best pro prospect, redshirted his first year at Florida State. He’s proof that Fisher can turn one year off the football field into a boot camp experience that prepares young passers for the rigor of the college game.

Crazier things have happened, but a true freshman starting Fisher’s first season in College Station isn’t Plan A, Plan B or even Plan C.
