4. Cameron Jurgens

Nebraska is not really lacking in receiving talent. Stanley Morgan, JD Spielman, and Tyjon Lindsey are all back, and should make for a deadly wide receiving corps. There are some issues, however, at tight end.

Tyler Hoppes was the top tight end last year, by far. He’s gone, and in his place is Jack Stoll, who caught just eight passes last season. Scott Frost doesn’t use tight ends a ton, but based on his time at UCF, it’s easy to see that Stoll isn’t his type. He’s slower, and less athletic, more of a blocker than receiver.

Four-star Beatrice, Neb., product Cameron Jurgens is much more Frost’s type. Unlike Stoll, Jurgens is an athletic, receiving first tight end. His blocking isn’t great yet, but his size, speed and catching ability is exactly what Frost wants.

Jurgens wasn’t an early enrollee, so he has an uphill battle to win the job in fall. However, if he works in the weight room, and lives up to his hype, he’s the best tight end on the roster. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t see plenty of time this year. He may even be the outright starter.
