Linebackers

The Scarlet Knights bring back a tandem of senior linebackers from a season ago and the pair just so happened to be the top-two leading tacklers on the defense last year.

By season’s end, Trevor Morris will be a three-year starter on the Rutgers defense. He recorded a team and career-high 118 total tackles and had 3.5 tackles for loss in 2017. In addition, he averaged 9.8 tackles per game, which ranked second in the Big Ten and 18th in the country.

He thrived particularly well in Big Ten play, collecting 102 stops. His best game last season was saved for the final game of the year when he hunted down 19 tackles in the loss to Michigan State.

Alongside Morris is another will be three-year starter in Deonte Roberts. He wasn’t far behind Morris as he racked up the second highest number of tackles on the team (104). He also had five tackles for loss and forced one fumble. Roberts registered double-digit tackles twice last season–against Michigan and Michigan State.
