Previewing the defense

The real question marks come along for Arkansas on the defensive side of the ball. A group that gave up more than four touchdowns per game last season, and couldn’t stop any opposing ground game needs to find some answers this fall. That starts with the front seven playing much better than it did a season ago.

The Hogs need a very certain group of linebackers and defensive lineman to step up in 2018. That includes junior defensive tackle McTelvin Agim, senior defensive end Randy Ramsey, junior middle linebacker De’Jon Harris, and senior weakside linebacker Dre Greenlaw. There’s a lot of experience and skill to go around here, but Arkansas fans haven’t seen all of it come to fruition yet.

All of the three leaders in total tackles from last season are back for the 2018 campaign. Harris and Greenlaw were the only two Arkansas defenders that racked up more than 100 total tackles last year, and should be a force again this time around.

The last of those three total tackle leaders that needs to come through again for Arkansas is senior safety Santos Ramirez. He had a nice production level last season, and was possibly the best player on this side of the ball altogether. Ramirez racked up more than 60 total tackles, one interception, eight pass deflections, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.
