College Football: Ranking the 7 worst uniforms of all time
5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (2016)
Notre Dame has worn some terrible uniforms for the Shamrock Series and the 2016 model against Army down in Texas was no different. Notre Dame has the cleanest, most college football of the traditional uniforms and should never veer.
Since Lou Holtz’s second wearing of the green alternate jersey while in South Bend the Irish haven’t had much luck in green. Holtz lost the 1995 Fiesta Bowl, Bob Davie lost the 1999 Gator Bowl, Ty Willingham choked against Boston College in 2002, and Charlie Weiss lost the “Bush Push” game in 2005 while, you guessed it, wearing green.
Brian Kelly has shaken the alternate jersey woe of the Irish by winning Shamrock Series games regularly but I’m not even sure what the look was in the 2016 edition. The jersey is an off-green almost military duffel bag in the mud color while the pants are more yellow than gold. They’re bad Green Bay Packers uniforms and they never had to happen as Notre Dame has a perfect polish with their more traditional look — especially those of the Holtz era.
The Irish should never alter their helmets and that’s not just because I’m anti helmet change but also because I’m anti helmet change. Alternative uniforms at Notre Dame should be outlawed by the pope and Touchdown Jesus at the same time.
