Current conference: Mountain West
Possible destination: Pac-12

San Diego State has come to dominate the competition in the Mountain West. The Aztecs won back-to-back conference championships in 2015 and 2016 and have had a winning season in each year this decade.

The Aztecs have also produced two top-flight running back talents in Donnell Pumphrey and Rashad Penny, who rank first and fourth respectively in all-time rushing yards for the program.

San Diego State was yet another team that showed its might against Power Five schools. In 2017, it not only won both matchups but emerged victorious against them in consecutive weeks.

The Aztecs beat Arizona State by 10 points before they knocked off the then No. 19 Stanford by a tight margin of three points. In 2018, San Diego State will have an opportunity to do the same exact thing as it plays both teams again.

A move to the Pac-12 makes sense for the Aztecs, who are conveniently located in California. There are already four teams from California in the Pac-12, and two of which — USC and UCLA — are in fairly close proximity to San Diego.

San Diego State’s success surely merits them at least some consideration to join the Pac-12, which had a down year in 2017.
