The Liberty schedule isn’t loaded with top-tier talent but there is enough firepower to bang up the Flames in year one of FBS play. Liberty is the S&P+ pre-season 115th ranked team and kick off the season hosting no. 114 Old Dominion. Liberty could pull off another upset, although at a much smaller scale, like they did against Baylor in 2017. A road trip to Army West Point looks like a probable loss.

The Flames then host Norfolk State and North Texas in back-to-back weeks. Norfolk State is a bad FCS program but North Texas and Seth Littrell are improving. Consecutive road trips to the state of New Mexico will be hard on the roster as they first face New Mexico and then New Mexico State. Neither are good programs by any means (both in the 100’s of the S&P+) but that’s a tough road trip following North Texas.

The Flames return home to face a really good Troy team and then Idaho State before their bye week. Heading into the bye Liberty could be 4-4 overall. Three straight road games against UMass, Virginia and Auburn will be grueling and all three should be losses before hosting New Mexico State (yes, they’re playing twice in the regular season).

2018 Prediction: 4-8
