If you were to make a checklist of qualifications for an incoming freshman looking to see the field early, the following three items would definitely be on top of it:

  • Be among the best at your position coming out of high school.
  • Enroll early and join the team for spring practices.
  • Play at a position of need for your respective team.

Incoming tight end Mustapha Muhammad fits all of these requirements for the Wolverines. The four-star prospect was ranked as the sixth-best tight end in the nation per the 247Sports Composite, and was in Ann Arbor for the start of the spring semester. He’s also got an opportunity for early playing time thanks to Jim Harbaugh’s offensive scheme, which often uses multiple tight ends, and an injury to reserve Tyrone Wheatley Jr. in the spring.

It seems that the Wolverines have had an endless supply of standout tight ends in recent years, and the uber-athletic Muhammad could be next in line.
