2. Calm under pressure

From injuries to inexperienced starters, one of the biggest issues for the Nittany Lions over the past few seasons has been their offensive line. Despite this, McSorley has been able to remain calm in the pocket and deliver on his throws. In the 2018 Fiesta Bowl, McSorley went 8-of-11 for 80 yards and one touchdown, scoring himself a 123.3 passer rating when facing pressure against Washington’s Top-5 defense. But McSorley has come up big in other games, too.

In one of Penn State’s biggest games on their road to reclaiming the Big 10, the Nittany Lions found themselves in a hole quick being down 28-7 to the Wisconsin Badgers in the conference championship game. Despite in the deficit, McSorley stepped up and delivered, throwing for 384 yards and four touchdowns, including the game-winner to Saquon Barkley.

And in 2017, facing a potential upset against the unranked Iowa Hawkeyes, McSorley showed his calm and collected self once again. Trailing 19-15 with 1:36 left in the game, McSorley went 7-of-10 for 53 yards and tossed the game-winning touchdown pass as time expired. No matter the stakes or the odds, Trace McSorley steps in and delivers time and time again.
