College Football: Top 10 quarterback/wide receiver duos of the 2000’s
The curse of the USC quarterbacks might be real in the NFL, but certainly not at the collegiate level. The Trojans ensured their near-perennial status as a top dog in college football thanks to the combination of Matt Barkley and Marquise Lee.
Lee was a dependable receiver for Barkley’s final two seasons as a Trojan. Lee amassed 248 career receptions, 3,655 receiving yards and 29 touchdown catches. Unlike some of the other receivers on the list, Lee’s most productive season was in his sophomore year (2012). He caught 118 passes for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns.
His name is in the record books with the most career receiving yards and most receiving yards in a single season (2012). He ranks second in career receptions but has the most catches in a single season (2012).
Here’s one 83-yard bomb Barkley threw to Lee in 2012.
Barkley stakes his claim to the storied USC program-best in career passing yards (12,327), passing touchdowns (116) and the most touchdown passes in a single season (39).
That is pretty tough to do considering USC has had a long line of great quarterbacks come through the program like Todd Marinovich and two Heisman Trophy winners– Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.
