Brendan DeVera will be part of a linebacking squadron that will most likely feature a pair of upperclassmen in Trevor Morris and Deonte Roberts.

However, he may have to step up earlier than expected since Morris missed the Rutgers Spring Game after suffering a dislocated elbow. According to the report, Rutgers head coach Chris Ash assured that Morris won’t miss significant time, but regardless, DeVera can fit in nicely in his sophomore season alongside Morris and Roberts.

As a freshman in 2017, Devera played in 11 games and made two tackles. He was also another freshman to be tested in the first game of his collegiate career against Washington last season.

DeVera decommitted from New Hampshire and Delaware before opting to join the Scarlet Knights. He has good size for a linebacker at 6-foot-1 and 240 pounds.

He is a high school teammate of Hunter Hayek coming out of Wayne Hills in Wayne, N.J. and while in high school, he also played quarterback on the offensive side of the ball.
