Bryce Love has already thrown the college football world for a loop twice.

No one could have possibly anticipated him not only filling Christian McCaffrey‘s shoes, but actually exceeding his predecessor’s rushing output. In his first year as a full-time starter, Love finished second in the nation with 2,118 rushing yards, won the Doak Walker Award for the nation’s best running back, finished second in the Heisman voting, and was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year. Not bad for what amounted to a debut season.

Then he followed all of that up by shocking the world again and deciding to return to Palo Alto for his senior season. There are dozens of quality backs in college football right now, and any one of them may be able to lay claim to the title of best running back by the time the 2018 season is over.
